Going once, going twice, sold!

I was once again very excited  to work with the K-State Purebred Beef Unit on their Legacy Sale video. When I was at K-State the Bull Sale Class was one of the classes that I got to participate in. It is an excellent way for students to get a hands on experience.

Plus, while I was there shooting the video. I may or may not have found a Simmental heifer that I like very much. I mean she is good, and my lucky number 27. Probably it was meant to be, and probably my bank account isn't big enough!

I love walking through parking lots and unexpectingly seeing license plates and bumper stickers supporting agriculture.

The Classic Beef It's What's For Dinner bumper sticker. You are usually able to get these stickers from your state Beef Council.

 Now these plates are my favorite! It makes me very sad that in Missouri we have found plates and I can't use mine.

Here's a throwback for you. Going back a few years is one of my great friends and I being super sales women, at K-State Cattlemen's Day. You can purchase the K-State Eat Beef license plates from the KSU Collegiate Cattlewomen.

And if you don't bleed purple maybe you bleed orange. Eat Beef Oklahoma State style with this fundraiser by the OSU Collegiate Cattlewomen.

This bumper stick I found on my trip to Australia. It was a on a side of a boat. Probably not a truer statement.

And sometimes those bumper sticker wear out, but this is still my favorite one.

And ladies and gentlemen this is why I love Frank Martin.

Frank Martin knows how to rock the K-State Cowboys. 

And I wonder if Frank Martin's wife was wearing there K-State cowboy boots. Now, for those that aren't K-State fans, I mean I am not really sure why you wouldn't be, but Nocana makes a ton a different college cowboy boots, and a really cool men's square toe style similar to this. 

Now let's play some better basketball in the tournament. 

Moving Home the Farmer Way

This past weekend I was in Manhattan, and I have lots to tell you ie. me filming side by side the Food Network! But first, this past weekend was graduation weekend in Manhattan, and thousands of students will be moving home or headed out to summer jobs and internships.

So where does a livestock trailer fit in?

When you are in a town that has such a strong agriculture background it is common to see agriculture mixed in with urban. However, the purpose of the trailer in this situation is likely not for moving livestock, but instead belongs. Livestock trailers are the next best thing to a U-Haul!

Each August everyone jokes that you would think a livestock show was going on, with the number of bumper hitches and gooseneck trailers that descent on the Little Apple, and May isn't much different. I guess you can take the girl out of the country, but can't take the country out of the girl.

It's game day

Today is a pretty important day. Teams across the country will be playing football, but there is one team I will be wildly cheering on, my K-State Wildcats. See today we play Oklahoma State. We had an undefeated season until last week when those ugly Sooners kind of dominated us. After so many straight wins in a row, we are looking for a W again.

Now I know that many of my close friends are Cowboys, and I know that many people that read this blog will be wearing orange today, so I am making a declaration. I will not smack talk you, if you are pleasant back. That way we don't have to put our friendship on hold.

Now for the goose bump part. If the hairs on your arm down stand up, obviously you don't bleed purple. Go cats, and remember EMAW.

My farmer friends are sexy and they know it

A parody in the field. 

On Tuesday night as I sat in my hotel room @Mel_Writer tweeted me about some "crazy creative advocate"(she knows them personally) with a new YouTube video. Let's just say these boys aren't the "Sexy and I know it," type rather the "I'm farming and we grow it." Just watch this video.

These three boys definitely peaked my curiosity and I had to know who they were. I sent off an email and here is the behind the scenes story of these YouTube agriculture superstars.

Greg (21), Nathan (18) and Kendal (15) are from Assaria, KS and are a part of their fourth generation farm. They are also die hard K-State fans. This made me even more excited. Greg is a senior at K-State majoring in Ag Communications with a minor in Music Performance (not surprising), Nathan will be a freshman at K-State this fall and Kendal will mostly likely end up there too, after finishing high school.

The boys' primarily raise beef cattle, but also have crops such as wheat, corn, soybeans, milo and alfalfa. I would say all that food raising keeps them pretty busy.

Now, how in world do you come up with a video like this. Well, Greg said that he wrote the song back in May, and convinced his brothers to record the audio with him before wheat harvest started, and then during wheat harvest they started filming all the scenes. "We filmed everyday since then, and whenever  we convinced my dad to let us off work early," said Greg.

In the first 24 hours the video surpassed 4,000 views, and with all the sharing and singing along the video is growing into quite the sensation.

Greg said if he could share one thing with consumers is would be, "Don't take agriculture for granted. Whenever, I see people on the Internet bashing farmers I know it is because they do not understand us. Farmers are vital to our society and we work hard to meet the demands of consumers. Farmers are just trying to meet the needs of the people!"

I'm talking about what comes from playing for a Midwest school

I am K-State Proud. 

Recently, a gentlemen known as the K-State Mask has entered the college football scene. And whether or not you have any desire to bleed K-State purple you've got to watch. He is moving (I literally get goosebumps), hilarious, motivating and ridiculous. Below is a quote from today's video as we get pumped up to play Miami this weekend.

I think I fell in love.

This quote goes on longer and get pretty funny after the heartfelt stuff in the K-State Mask video. You can watch it all hear.

Tailgating T-shirts and Underwear

It is football season. 

Eek! That pretty much explains how excited I am when Saturdays roll around. I mean was is better than spending time with friends, gorging yourself on tailgating food while cheering on your favorite team. Nothing. OK maybe being at a cattle show. I really like those too.

This weekend the Boy and I with a bunch of other friends headed down to Iowa City for the Hawkeyes vs Iowa State game. The majority of them are Iowa fans, which suits me just fine. I bleed K-State purple and there is no way I am cheering for that other Big 12 team - Iowa State.

The day worked out perfect. We had a big screen at our tailgate so that meant I got to watch the K-State game at eleven (and we dominated) and then we watched the Iowa game in the afternoon. That one didn't go so hot. They lost, but it wasn't to a good team by any means. I declared that neither team really should have won because they both did way more wrong than right.

By the end of the day I think I had won some K-State fans. I mean they played great and the K-State Mask videos definitely raised our level of cool.

I knew that during the tailgate it would be proper to support the Boy's team, but I needed to represent my team. Thankful to Threads, this awesome T-shirt store in Manhattan, KS, I was able to make my plan a reality.

Presenting my K-State Girls Like Iowa Boys T-shirt. Threads does all kinds of custom work, and will ship anywhere. The shirt ended up being almost $30 I think. They carry American Apparel clothing, which I love because of their super soft shirts, but be warned their women's sizes runs little small. This is a size medium and it fit perfect. 

I wasn't the only one with a unique piece of clothing though. A gentlemen showed up pretty early to our tailgate with something he called Game Day Undies. 

Our best man's dad decided to big a pair for himself. The idea is that with these boxer briefs you can successfully sneak your own alcohol into games. You never are quite sure what you'll see at a tailgate. 

Here's to another great weekend and a countdown to Saturday. 

Passionate about Purple.

Bleeding Purple

If you haven't heard the Kansas State Wildcats are #1. Yup, my team, my alma mater is #1. It has been a little surreal this football season. Win or lose you won't find fans that love their team or their coach (the amazing Bill Snyder) as much as we do, but on top of that we are #1 is slightly unbelievable. If this is a dream I don't want to wake up.

When at the K-State game a couple weeks ago I got a little emotional. When I looked around I realized how much purple has shaped my life. If it is wasn't for me attending Kansas State University I have no idea what path I would be on and I think I am in a pretty amazing place in my life right now. What I owe to K-State and my K-State Family is really unmeasurable. 

It would be amazing if Collin Klein and our Wildcats brought home that crystal football, but if those players experience at K-State was anything like mine they hearts are already so full that they will know they have already won. Cheesy yes, but true. 

While at the game they filmed a shot of the Championship Trophy right in front of us. I apologize for the incredibly blurry iPhone picture because that crystal football is beautiful to see. 

This weekend the Boy and are are going to a Notre Dame game with the farming group. I am really excited to see the campus, however I will be proudly sporting my K-State purple. I know where my heart lies. If you ever have the opportunity to stop in Manhattan, or have a son or daughter or friend that is about to go to college tell them to consider Kansas State. It is the least I can go to spread the purple pride. It was one of the best decisions I ever made.
